Transformation of the Cromwell estate

We’ve partnered with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and the Cromwell estate residents’ group to transform this community and to truly understand what differences can be made to make this a better place to live. We’ve invested £200,000 into the Cromwell estate in a regeneration project that aims to revitalise neighbourhood living and improve the wellbeing of our customers.

So far, we’ve:

  • replaced uneven paving slabs on pathways with smooth tarmac to ensure safer pedestrian access throughout the estate
  • improved parking areas
  • fixed drainage issues
  • landscaped various areas
  • replaced a flight of steps with a slope to facilitate easier access for wheelchair users

This project is more than just a series of improvements – it’s a celebration of community spirit, completed in time for the Cromwell Community Group’s summer fun day, which took place successfully on 29 June. This positive community event brought customers together with their families to enjoy the glorious summer weather.

Our regeneration of the Cromwell estate marks a significant milestone in our mission to create thriving, inclusive communities.

But we’re not stopping here. Building on our commitment to enhance community living, we’ve invested an additional £80,000 to rejuvenate the neighbouring Observatory Walk area. The nearly completed works will ensure full accessibility for wheelchair users, featuring improved pathways, upgraded grounds, and revamped car parks, as we continue to pave the way for inclusive, high-quality living environments.

Justin Chamberlin, Head of Asset Management said: “The revitalisation of the Cromwell estate is a shining example of our commitment to enhancing the living conditions of our tenants. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received reflects the success of our dedicated team, whose hard work and passion for serving the community are truly commendable. This project is not just about physical improvements, but about fostering a sense of pride and belonging among our residents.”

Eli Karlicka-Cook, Community Development Worker at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, added: “The partnership between Raven Housing Trust, Cromwell Community Group and the council showcases the power of community collaboration. The rejuvenation of the Cromwell estate is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations and residents work together towards a common goal. This project sets a new standard for community-driven development, and we look forward to continuing this positive momentum in future initiatives.”
