Christmas holiday fun that won’t break the bank

Our Moneywise team has put together some brilliant ideas for how to enjoy the festive season without breaking the bank.

  • Taking your child to the pantomime and to see Santa is all part of the magic of Christmas, but festive outings can hurt your wallet at a time when it’s already feeling the strain. Save money by seeing what’s on locally: There are lots of Christmas Fayre’s and light switch on in Reigate (30th November 11:30-5:30) and Dorking (1st December 11-5pm). These are free to attend and include free activities for children of all ages. Check out other cheaper activities over the Christmas holidays, such as visiting neighbour’s outside Christmas light displays or cheap local treasure trails.
  • Feel the festive vibe by making Christmas cards, decorations, crafts and baking, instead of buying and get the children involved. Here’s a link to make paper Christmas trees to get you started, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZAsOQiZMEs, or try these festive Christmas tree cupcakes, https://www.muminthemadhouse.com/christmas-tree-cupcakes/.
  • Free Christmas games and Santa tracker Google Santa Tracker, Official NORAD Tracks Santa (available from 1st December).
  • Don’t forget to take advantage of offers on the lead up to Christmas. Black Friday usually has some great deals online and instore. This year it falls on Friday 29th of November.
  • Our friends at Stripey Stork can help provide a small gift with wrapping paper and Sellotape. Contact our Moneywise team to see if this is something we can help you with a referral.
  • Remember to buy Christmas goods after Christmas 2024, such as cards, wrapping, decorations etc. Also you can try and work towards saving for Christmas 2025 by working out how much you spent in 2024, divide by 10 to work out a monthly saving.
