Information about your garage rent increase 2024
It’s really important that you read your individual garage rent letter as this explains your new charges and what you need to do next. If you’ve not received your letter, please call us on 0300 123 3399
Why is my garage rent increasing?
The last time we increased garage rents was 2018. After this, we decided to freeze garage rents because of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, to help with affordability. However, during this time, the cost of maintaining and managing our garages has increased, and for us to be able to provide garages to rent and to continue our improvement programme, it’s essential for us to increase rents.
This year, we’ve made the decision to increase your charges by 10% to cover our costs and continue with improvements. Your increase may be over this if your charges were previously lower than the standard garage rent charge. Please refer to your individual letter for your new rent amount.
Garage improvement programme
Over the past 10 years we’ve invested £1 million into modernising our garages. This upgrade programme demonstrates our commitment to our garage tenants
and providing sustainable local storage for customers.
In the last five years, we’ve made significant upgrades to our garage stock. We’ve replaced 750 old asbestos roofs with durable metal roofs, ensuring longevity and safety for tenants. Additionally, we’ve installed 200 new garage doors enhancing both functionality and how they look.
In response to increased demand for local storage solutions, we’ve put empty garages back into use and available for rent.
53-week year
If the rent on your garage is charged weekly, we need to let you know that this year there are 53 chargeable Mondays, instead of the usual 52 weeks. This happens every five or six years. It also applies if you have a 48-week garage tenancy, this year there are 49 chargeable Mondays.
If you have a Direct Debit with us, you don’t need to do anything as we’ll make sure it covers the extra week. If you pay in another way, please make sure you arrange to pay the additional week.
Please refer to your garage rent letter to check your new charges.
